Yes, this seemingly insignificant task has been a grand fait accompli for me. It really does deserve a blog post. The pantry was neatly arranged as well. People, it’s been two years of utensil chaos glaring up at me each time I pulled open the kitchen drawers. Tongs and blades entangled, threatening to wage war against my tender fingers, retribution for my failure to make a place and mark a separate territory for these unique instruments–now, here is fork, over there is knife, and yet another compartment for spoon.
I even called my husband to tell him the news. “Honey, I picked up a stainless steel silverware tray at Goodwill for two dollars, and some pantry shelves at the neighbor’s garage sale.” He shared in the joy, and if you’ve lived with disheveled drawers yourself, you’ll know the thrill. The whole kitchen makeover took all of an hour, but it felt like a million bucks. I never realized I had five can openers.
So, if you need a wave of inspiration in your day, you know what to do.
Ok! I think you have encouraged me to clean out my kitchen drawer. Can you tell me why there are always crumbs in the silverware drawer? I mean, really I don’t put dirty silverware in the drawer. have a great week! I prayed for you last week, hope all went well.
Would you believe, we do not have a silverware cabinet or drawer. All our utensils are out, readily available anytime because they are very minimal, just a set of spoons and forks for 6 people. :-)
I have another set hidden, for guests (who rarely come).
Oh yes. Isn’t it amazing how those little things make SUCH a difference. I long to go around doing this sort of thing but right now all are a bit sick and too icky to actually finish anything–though I did fix the dishwashe today.
Oh yes – I love order, I crave order, my heart sings for order and yet…..here I sit in the middle of a once clean but now chaotic, messy house again. Why? Because the second law of thermodynamics is working its evil truth in my home everyday. It is a hopeless case really – sometimes I wonder why I continue to fight it…maybe it is because I love order, I crave order, my heart sings for order. It’s a vicious cycle isn’t it? : D

Getting things under control is always an inspiration. Keeping them that way is the challenge. LOL
I can totally understand that- feels good to get something like that done!

Lol, Jennifer! So glad your utensil life is now in order. A “fait accompli” indeed, and thoroughly inspiring!
Glad you tackled it well and once and for all!

You are so funny, Jen. this would have taken me half a day. Luckily I did it years ago. Enjoy the empowerment while it lasts.
Ah yes. The poor neglected silverware drawer. Rarely attended to because it isn’t even seen when guests come over. :)
P.S. Have a Happy Mother’s Day, Jennifer! :~D
