A favorite place

Big L perched on a rock

Big L found a favorite perch. From here, he had a bird’s eye view of the valley and the horizon beyond. Upon his rocky seat, with his hand steadied by the old weathered fence post, my son felt like king of the hill.

I wondered what tales the worn, lichen and moss covered fence could tell. Who owned the cattle it once held in? What hands pounded the stakes? Why did these people move on? Where did they go from here?

Do you have a favorite place to retreat to when you need to clear your mind or when you long for solitude?

I yeah, I have one of those rocks. But it doesn’t look over a valley. Just along the pasture. I call it my thinkin’ rock.

Becky, Everyone should have a “thinkin’ rock” – thanks for stopping by!

Ahhh – yes – the bathtub! I love the bath here in our new rental. A jettub that sits right next to a picturesque window with a view of the countryside and our little Tekoa mountain in the background. Very pretty and calming. I just love living in the country. ( : Thanks for sharing this.

    Love,
    Mandi

Mandi, your jetted tub sounds heavenly. Two beautiful things combined – a bath and a mountain view. Enjoy!!

That is just beautiful! My favorite spot as a kid was a chestnut tree and then a nearby maple tree when I got too big for the chestnut tree–I loved to retreat there with a good book.

    Sweet moment caught on film.

    How are you feeling?

    A classic shot of boyhood.

Where do I retreat to? A very hot bath or a long drive in the car. :~D

Heather, my favorite spot as a child was a tree, too. A poplar tree out front, from whose branches I could see the mountains and hide from the world. Some of my best memories are up that tree.

e-Mom, I like how you put it, “a classic shot of boyhood.” I think so, too.

Love the picture and the fact that he has his own “spot”. I use to go up the mountain along the creek for my thinking. Now days it seems I can only get as close as looking out the back window-but even that helps. Neat post!

As a child I had a spot high in an apple tree. As an adult I have nowhere! :(

Tipper, a mountain along a creek would be a wonderful place to go for thinking. I hope you make it back there soon.

Mrs. Darling, I’m picturing a late 40s woman high in an apple tree… better off having coffee in your kitchen. :-)

P.S. Can’t wait for the two posts in your God in Science series. Very worthwhile stuff!
