Why do you love the blogging?Posted May 23rd, 2008 by Jen in blog stuff, humorAloha, it’s Friday!! I’ve been so very busy, excuse me if I haven’t been out a’visitin’ in my usual way. Everything has collided this time of year, from our building project to spring projects and work duties and beyond. I think most of us are in the same boat!
Here’s a few reasons from this week why I think blogs are great: Number 1:
The lovely, talented, kind, and generous Heather at An Untraditional Home painted this watercolor portrait of my children, which I was able to give my husband for his birthday on Monday of this week. Heather does commissioned work, and even though she lives in Pennsylvania and I live in Oregon, this was no problemo! I emailed her this photo:
And voila! My husband was incredibly pleased, and my 6 year old daughter was absolutely amazed: Mommy, how did you find a painting of children that look just like us?! Heather’s art site is Elasah.com, and she just started offering art lessons online for your children (and you!). We’ll be giving this a try, so keep an eye out for really disproportionate drawings of the human body being posted here. Number 2:
Reason No. 2 that I love the blogs is this delightful springtime package of goodies I received in the mail yesterday from that charming Tennessee gal Sarah at Small World. (In the interest of full disclosure, that chocolate box is already empty.) You know those fun contests that bloggers occasionally run? Well, I actually won something -Thanks, SmallWorld! Why do you love blogging? p.s. Here are some of the themes I’m seeing in your responses: community, encouragement, education, a forum for self-expression and self-exploration, entertainment, a place of connection with family…good stuff, good stuff.

I’m going on my fourth year of blogging and I love it even more now than when I first started. I don’t see myself quitting any time soon.
It’s hard to list just one reason, but I think one of the biggest reasons for me is the fact that I love reading about people’s lives. It’s like looking in people’s windows without getting into trouble. *grin* I don’t know, it’s the writer in my, I suppose. I’m naturally curious about people.
Karen, I agree, and it’s so much nicer reading a blog than reading People Magazine, full of the fake lives of fake people.
Community–especially for stay-at-homes like myself and my husband is a definite plus.
Aww! I’m so glad you liked your box of stuff!!! And I’m glad to be part of why you like blogging!!
Heather, that is definitely the heart of blogging! I have found more like-minded souls out here in internet-land than I would have dreamed!
SmallWorld, yep, it’s folks like you who make it so fun!
That amazing family portrait will be with you forever! VERY cool.
Why do I love blogging? Great question!!! “Web publishing” gives me the opportunity to use my talents all in one place… and it costs next to nothing.
I get to read, think deeply, learn about God, teach, lead discussions, influence spiritual growth, write, enjoy photography, do layout and design, utilize my marketing skills, make a little spare change, and build a global network of like-minded Christian sisters. So what’s NOT to like?
Glad you’re busy living real life… I’ve been out in our garden all week. :~D
I stumbled up on blogging and I guess you can say I am slightly addicted to it. I don’t blog everyday but I try to read all my regular blogs everyday. It has been fun to “meet” people and feel like you have a whole new world of people you have not met in real life but feel like you know.
I love this blog world we have!
I love blogging because it helps me to summarize my thoughts on a given day. I also love to show off my beautiful kids and share their funny happenings with my family, friends, and all the wonderful people I have met blogging.
e-Mom, that is a great collection of reasons to love blogging! I’m personally grateful to you for hosting Marriage Monday and bringing so many uplifting blogs across my screen.
Jennifer, I feel a bit like Alice in Wonderland at times. I’m shrinking, I’m shrinking! And the world gets bigger, and smaller in a striking way.
Kristi, you know, blogging has really helped me to articulate my thoughts, too. Writing always helps me process things, and figure out what I really think, and it helps me learn so many new things, because I’m a researcher by nature, and so when I write about a particular topic, you can bet I’m doing my homework as well.
I love blogging. I am able to speak my mind (it’s faster than writing for me so I actually do it), and it’s easy to keep up with my friends in state and out of state.
I’ve also met some really great people in the blogging world and, to be honest, their lives are much more interesting than celebs!
Ive been blogging for 6 years and I do it as a family diary. the last two years have changed my reasons though. Now I blog to connect with homeschoolers. I love the info and encouragment that I get from other bloggers. Yes I’ve had more than my share of trolls but in the end its all been worth it!
I like blogging for many reasons. I get to connect with other women that have similar interests, learn new things and get some awesome ideas, express my thoughts and write about things that are important to me, grow as a Christian, and learn about myself as I write.
That’s a lovely painting of the kids.
I love blogging because it’s a wonderful way of expressing myself and sharing memorable things in my life. I’ve also met several blog friends in person and I treasure the friendship I have gained.
i dunno that i can post what i want since its my blog lol its another way to meet new friends too
I was thinking about writing on this topic next month to mark my first year in blogging. I still can’t believe it been almost a year!
So anyway, I will write more then, but I have to echo the community thing. I have been encouraged and challenged by other homeschoolers. And I got a box last week from a sweet blogging friend, too. I didn’t even win it. She just sent me beautiful stuff to encourage me. Thinking about it brings tears to my eyes all over again.
Oh goodness, Jen. I have only begun this blogging journey. And it does scare me a bit, because I do like it so much. I’m afraid I will get lost in Blogspace. Let’s hope not. I find your little corner of the world to be delightful, charming, informative, and CLEAN! Much more entertaining than T.V.

Blogging has made me re-evaluate myself; that someone actually reads what I write and agree/disagree with me and we carry on great conversations revolving a certain topic. Also, the best thing is that I have made connections with people living halfway ’round the world; with people that I might not even meet for the rest of my life!
I love to blog for the creative outlet it offers. For someone who is shy-it is much easier to write for folks I don’t know than for the ones I do know.
I love to read blogs to peak into peoples lives-to see what they do-how they do it-why they do it. Its like reality t.v. but so much better.
I like blogging because it stimulates my brain. There is so much media out there these days, I love that blogging is my chance to be a part of something bigger while expressing myself honestly and openly.
There are a lot of irresponsible bloggers out there but I like the idea of creating something that I am responsible for, might have to answer for and yet don’t have to answer for because it’s my own personal work. It’s very liberating and humbling.
Hi Jen,
Very cool picture (and a nice gift, too). We are chocolathoics here at our house as well.
I’ve always journaled in audio and written forms, so blogging seemed like the next thing to do. We hope our kids will be greatly embarrassed (I mean, appreciative) of being able to know what was going on in our family’s life at different points in time.
We’ve also met people from all over the world (and even here in Oregon ;-). Lots of reasons to do it and to keep doing it!
Great picture- what a wonderful present for your hubby. Your children are beautiful. I love connecting with others through blogging. I have met many interesting, talented, honest, friendly people and have received much encouragement. I also like how it makes me notice the little things in my life more- cause then I go blog about it! I am keeping a record of my family that I can look back on later. Those are just some of my reasons why I heart blogging.
