It’s a John Wayne Coffee Mug Morning

For Christmas, I bought my husband a John Wayne coffee mug. It’s a hefty, oversized, manly mug with a picture of The Duke on one side, and the motto “A man’s got to have a code, a creed to live by” inscribed on the other. More importantly, it’s the largest coffee mug in the house.

My dear, I know you are possessive of your manly mug, but please understand that I slept for one hour last night, in ten minute increments, and only in between all the vomiting. I NEED this mug overflowing with John Wayne-ish coffee to make it through my day. I need the inspiration of The Code to see past the mounds of linens that need washing, all the little three-year-old boy clothes soiled with the poor child’s upheavals, and all my own clothing equally fouled from the never-ending night.

I’m on my second robust, red-blooded cup of coffee. My cute little mug with the flowers would never do on a morning like this. It’s a kind husband, indeed, who will share his rare and rugged mug, and also take the other three children for the day so his wife can recover, catch up, and even take a nap with the yet ailing child. It’s a very John Wayne thing to do.

I am so sorry–I have had those days, which in my case required my huge travel mug to make it through. Praying that you all are healthy soon (because where one is sick more are soon to follow. :))

Praying that all the rest of you stay healthy, or you may need a whole pot of coffee with a straw to make it through. What a nice hubby- not only sharing but helping out by watching the other kids!

Heather, thanks…I think we’re at the end of it, actually, because the rest of the family has already had their share - every single one of us over the past several weeks! I should have seen this one coming!

Jane, I’m laughing at the thought of sucking coffee straight from the pot!

Mrs. Darling, my husband loves John Wayne…so somehow it’s a good symbol for him!

MooBeeMa, yes, the vomit part has been horrible, the worst of all of us, and still continues TODAY! Poor little guy, he’s sleeping right now!

Thank you for sharing this post with the readers of this week’s Carnival of Family Life! This week the Spring is Just Around the Corner Edition is hosted at home at Colloquium! Hope you will drop by and read some of the many other wonderful entries received this week!

Ah, I remember nights like that. In our house, however, it would have to be a Dale Earnhardt mug. No question about that. The hubby has a shrine built in the garage, too. No joke.
