How odd. Maybe the house deteriated around it but maybe again there never was a house and it was some sort of miners oven for melting his ores. Okay, far out but hey, its a thought.

Kathleen, now you’re thinking – I like that creative outlook! My kids were of course trying to figure out the story behind the mysterious chimneys. I’ll let you know if I discover the true circumstances. My husband thinks they may have to do with old military outposts…

We saw quite a few of those in the Smokies. It was kind of interesting to imagine their life prior to the land being purchased to make way for the park…and to think of the building slowly deteriorating over time.

What a neat find!
I love things like that because you can make up your own story about it. (thinking like a homeschool mom here) I can see my kids creating stories about raging disease and burning of the entire village. I’ll have to go out looking for some chimneys of my own!!
