Serving Instructions

While shopping at my local grocery store a few days ago, I found a Dubuque Ham, with the following label:

Serving Instructions:

This Dubuque Ham is fully cooked and ready to serve. To do so, remove the wrapper, place on table and serve.

I couldn’t bring myself to buy the ham with such a label.

I came up with a better serving instruction, not for ham, but humanity:

You are fully equipped and ready to serve. To do so, remove all thoughts centered on yourself, place yourself in a humble position and serve.

The humble part is tough. Wasn’t that a word used to describe Wilbur the pig, I could be wrong as my memory is fading with each child. I don’t know why I mentioned that, but was thinking about humble and pig together as I read your post. Hope you found something else yummy for your dinner.

Jane, you’re absolutely right! How funny, I didn’t even catch the symbolism as I wrote this piece on ham. Wilbur was dubbed “humble” by Charlotte. We just had salad for dinner that night. :-)

Very good “human” label. I can think of a few people that would do well to live by that motto.

If the ham is fully cooked and canned why is the big 5 lb can refrigerated and the smaller 1 lb simmilar ones not?

What if you don’t refrigerate it?
